He also threw in a curveball and a slider, leaving Baltimore Orioles prospect Ike Irish and Kansas City Royals prospect Blake Mitchell in the dust. With his impressive display, Hernandez is on track to become a top-of-the-rotation starter, and only injury could derail his progress. What makes Hernandez's performance particularly fascinating is the sheer velocity and command he demonstrated. At 20 years old, he is already a force to be reckoned with, and his potential is immense. In my opinion, he is a prospect who could very well become a cornerstone of the Pirates' rotation in the coming years. The game also featured other standout pitchers, such as Seattle Mariners right-hander Ryan Sloan, who showed five different pitches, and Royals right-hander Kendry Chourio, who has the best command of any prospect on my top 50 list. The three college lefties selected in the 2025 MLB Draft also impressed, with Kade Anderson of the Mariners and Liam Doyle of the St. Louis Cardinals showcasing their skills. However, some pitchers didn't perform as well, with Washington Nationals right-hander Miguel Sime Jr. struggling to command his pitches, and Boston's top pitching prospect, Anthony Eyanson, failing to match his previous form. The Futures Game is not just about pitching, though. Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nathan Flewelling was named MVP for hitting the only home run of the game, and Blue Jays infielder JoJo Parker had the most impressive single swing, nearly homering off a 101 mph pitch. The game also featured standout performances from Milwaukee Brewers infielders Jesús Made and Luis Peña, who made impressive catches and showed outstanding bat speed. Overall, the 2026 MLB Futures Game was a showcase of young talent, with some players standing out for their pitching prowess and others for their hitting abilities.
